Description:
Acaulescent, rhizomatous herbs. Inflorescence terminal, arising in the center of a tuft of radical leaves; bracts green, apex recurved, each subtending 1 flower; bracteole absent; flowers yellow; calyx tubular; corolla tube short; lateral staminodes petaloid, oblong; labellum conspicuous and pendulous, about as long as the staminodes, obovate, 2-lobed; filament broad, anther versatile, crest minute, basally spurred; ovary incompletely 3-locular, ovules basal. Capsule subglobose, probably irregularly dehiscent; seeds with entire aril. (From Kubitzki, et al., p. 485)
Geographical Distribution:
Its one species, P. bhatii R.M. Sm., is known only from the type locality in India, Kanara Province.
Taxonomic Diversity:
Only one species, P. bhatii R.M. Sm., which is considered to be a part of the genus Curcuma by some taxonomists.
