Stahlianthus Kuntze

Description:
     Acaulescent herbs from short rhizome; roots flu- form, terminated by small tubers. Leaves few, often 2, blade asymmetric. Inflorescence terminal, arising in the center of a tuft of radical leaves, consisting of a single several-flowered cincinnus surrounded by 1, bell-shaped, 2-lobed bract; bracteole minute, open to the base and entire; flowers white or violet with yellow marks; calyx tubular, 3-dentate; corolla white; lateral staminodes petaloid, oblong, as long as or longer than corolla; labellum conspicuous and pendulous, spathulate, longer than staminodes, bifid; anthers sessile, connective with or without a membranous crest; ovary imperfectly 3-locular. Geographical Distribution:
     Found in the Himalayan region to S China, Hainan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and N Thailand.

Taxonomic Diversity:
     Comprises about six species.
